Kung-Fu and Ballet

Since we were driving home from getting Tonito's cast off, he has been asking to start kung-fu. Actually he was first interested in it after watching Kung-Fu Panda, and asked when we got home: "Mommy, can I do this:" (and then he would do karate chops in the air). I told him we would start after we move... and then when he was going to have his surgery we told him that the surgery would make his hand stronger for kung-fu. It has been hanging over our heads for a while:). So finally his cast was off, and that week we checked out a class and enrolled him. When he walks into that Rockyesque gym, filled with kids who look like him and talk like him (half the class is Asian, and the other half is Spanish-speaking), and is led by this 20-something Shao Lin monk- he just can't possibly be happier. His smile lasts the whole week, until the next class. They work SO hard in class, and it is a combo of aerobics, gymnastics, flexibility training, acrobatics, with some screaming punchs and kicks thrown in. Tonito pays full attention and tries so hard to do everything the class is working on- it is incredible to watch your child blossom, doing an activity that he loves. Although I never would have guessed kung fu would be his activity of choice, I am so proud of him and happy that he has found something that he loves!
